We’re happy to announce that we now also added a directory of Thai massage practitioners in Portland in Oregon.
Portland, aka “The City Of Roses”, is one of the greenest cities in the world, and I think that is a good indicator that there are lots of people who can appreciate the joy and relaxation that comes from receiving a skillful traditional Thai massage. There are lots of microbreweries (that’s why beer enthusiasts also refer to it as Beervana or Beertown), and Portlanders are mad about high-quality coffee, so they definitely know a thing or two about enjoying life :-)
It’s also one of the most vegetarian-friendliest cities in the USA, and food-lovers will be delighted by the abundance of great restaurants.
The “founder” of Portland bought the land (around 640 acre for 25 cents. Now THAT’s what I call a bargain, even in 1843. Actually two people teamed up to buy the land: William Overton and Asa Lovejoy. Later on William Overton sold half of his land claim to Francis W. Pettygrove. Both Lovejoy and Pettygrove wanted to name the new city after their hometown, and they couldn’t agree. Instead of shooting each other, they just tossed a coin. (I think that’s a sign of the long history of intelligence of Portlanders…). They cossed a coin three times – and two times Pettygrove won. The penny still does exist, and you can see it at the Oregon Historical Society – it’s called the “Portland Penny“.
I don’t know at what year Thai massage was first introduced to Portland, but I figure it can’t be that long ago. Probably somewhere after the Vietnam war days.
If you have a story to share about a Thai massage experience in Portland, be free to leave a comment and share it with the world :-)
